The open architecture of Sun VDI Software 3 gives users access to a broader choice of client devices and virtualization hosts, increasing flexibility, management efficiency, and data security. This five-day workshop introduces you to Sun VDI Software 3 technology and software administration. Along with installing Sun VDI Software 3, you are introduced to the architectural details of the software, providing a foundation to understand the individual features introduced in subsequent modules. Through a combination of instructor-led lectures and hands-on labs, you are introduced to the following VDI components and features: Sun xVM VirtualBox and VMware® Virtual Center desktop brokers LDAP and Microsoft® Active Directory directory server integration Open Storage platform for the back-end storage of user desktops Sun Ray Software (SRS) and Sun Secure Global Desktop (SGD) for the display of user desktops Sun VDI administration tools The workshop begins with a comprehensive overview of the VDI 3 architecture. As the workshop progresses, you use lab equipment to install and configure prerequisite components such as SGD and Sun VirtualBox so that when you install the Sun VDI software, all of the necessary components are available. Once you install the VDI software, you learn how to configure desktop providers, which host virtual desktops, and how to use front-end user access devices such as Sun Ray thin clients or a web browser with SGD to access assigned virtual desktops. You also learn how to manage pools of desktops and the various parameters which control the content and behavior of desktop pools. Failover and cluster configurations are also covered for large-scale deployments.
