lncreased memory requirements
With version 6.8.4 of McAfee Web Gateway, multi-process configuration was introduced for the McAfee Web
Gateway high-end appliances as a new option to improve overall performance of these appliances.
This new option is best used with 8 GB RAM, however, the current models of the high-end appliance
hardware ship with only 4 GB RAM or less. So if you want to make use of the new option, it is recommended
that you add memory to your appliance.
The following models are here referred to as high-end appliances:
• McAfee Web Gateway 1900 A, B, C, D
• McAfee Web Gateway 2900 all
Each of these models provides 8 DIMM slots, which are currently occupied as follows:
• McAfee Web Gateway 1900 A — 2 GB memory (4 x 512 KB, 667 MHz), Single Rank, four open DIMM
slots
• McAfee Web Gateway 1900 B — 4 GB memory (8 x 512 KB, 667 MHz), Single Rank, all DIMM slots
occupied
• McAfee Web Gateway 1900 C/D — 4 GB memory (4 x 1 MB, 667 MHz), Dual or Single Rank, four open
DIMM slots
• McAfee Web Gateway 2900 all — 4 GB memory (4 x 1 MB, 667 MHz), Dual or Single Rank, four open
DIMM slots
For the McAfee Web Gateway 1900 A and B models, it is recommended that you remove the existing 512
KB memory modules and insert new modules instead to reach the total of 8 GB RAM.
For the 1900 C and D models, as well as for all 2900 models, insert additional modules in the free slots to
reach the total of 8 GB RAM.
Note: Best performance is achieved when four or all eight DIMM slots are occupied. Therefore you should insert
modules as follows when upgrading: 8 x 1 GB or 4 x 2 GB, or 4 x 1 GB, respectively.
Buying additional memory modules
To add memory to your appliance, it is important that you buy only Dell-certified memory modules, which

4 On the page then appearing, select Memory Selector.
5 From the vendor list on the page then appearing, select Dell, and on the subsequent page, select
PowerEdge Servers.
6 To buy memory modules for any version of the McAfee Web Gateway 1900 appliance model, select
PowerEdge 1950 from the list of models on the page then appearing. For McAfee Web Gateway 2900,
