This is not new, but interest in using NFS rather than iSCSI or Fibre Channel to connect VMware farms to underlying disk storage seems to be taking off.
Less complexity and easier administration are two of the biggies, but I found a
blog entry that squarely addresses the question of performance. After all, it is counterintuitive that a 1GB Ethernet NFS link could outperform 4GB FC.
The blogger is a NetApp employee, so has an understandable NetApp bias, but his explanation of NFS advantages is spot on.
